Gerry Rafferty missing

Catching up with emails after returning from conference I found myself listening to City to City by Gerry Rafferty.

Out of curiosity I check on Wikipedia to see what he is up to these days, and was surprised to read that he is missing, having checked out of St Thomas's Hospital on 11 August leaving his belongings behind. Strangely, though there is hardly anything on the major news websites about it.

This seems odd, since although Rafferty is hardly an A-list celebrity these days, both 'Baker Street' and 'Stuck in the middle with you' are very famous songs, so you would expect his sudden and unexplained disappearance to be more widely reported.

There is a brief report here.

Iain,

Will you please keep us posted if there is any follow-up to this report.

Seconded. What disturbing news!

Thanks, Iain - he's one of the few people I've paid money to see play live, and I was one of the few people to buy his most recent album (not that it was much cop).

Please do anything if you can to make this more public news, I'm 36 and I think he's awesomely talented and I can't believe he's being left for dead. Are there no reporters with musical taste? How has this slipped by?

I ain't religious but I hope to God(s) he's ok :(

I have been a Gerry Rafferty fan for many years and I am also very concerned about Gerry's wherabouts.
I did read on the internet that his friend, Rab Noakes, had received a telephone call from him but that he had since gone missing again.
The guy is a musical genius - all of his albums clearly show the perfectionism of this man.
Wherever you are Gerry - TAKE CARE !

Incidently, I have to disagree with you Alex - :)
Gerry's most recent album was BRILLIANT and showed how he can readily diversify into different musical areas.
The more you listen to the album ' Another World ' the more you appreciate the depth of genius.

GREAT NEWS !!
Gerry Rafferty is apparently fine and well.
If you check out the site 'Ultimate Guitars.com ' - someone served him an a restaurant in Picadilly Gardens, London.
The police have commented that it is just an ' internet rumour '
that he is missing.
Now Gerry - - give us another album please - your fans are again suffering from withdrawl symptoms !!!

Gerry Rafferty is my Dad's cousin on his fathers side (Joe), though the family lost contact with him a while ago. Dad has lived out of Paisley for 28 yrs now but his brothers are all still there and used to keep regular contact with him up until about 12 yrs ago when he really slipped of the radar socially. I'm 25 and haven't seen Gerry since I was a nipper but live in London now and am trying to find out everything I can about where he might be how he is. It's so sad the way things have spiralled for him his relations with immediate family disintegrated years ago. Would love to know he's ok and at the least let him know that we're thinking about him. If anyone hears anything can they email tjrafferty@gmail.com to let me know.

Thanks

I have been trying and trying to find out if Gerry is doing ok. I understand he might have had a drinking problem for years, which I am very familiar with....I hope he's doing well and not that I'm religious, but he's bound to be interested in hanging around and just enjoying the stay.
Best Wishes,
Derek

This is just terrible. How can such a thing happen to such a talented genius of a man? I've been a fan since he was in short trousers and I dread to think that he is out there somewhere in danger.

Gerry, even though you will not likely see this, we hope you are safe and that you are in better spirits. Thank you so much for your musical contributions. Wonderful songs make up the soundtrack to our lives. You can be sure that there are a couple of your songs in mine.

All the best to Gerry and I hope that the article I read from the link posted here was true and he is on his way recovery of some sort. His music is fabulous and I had hoped someday he would return to dazzle us again.....but at this point his health is all I am concerned about!!

I saw Gerry Rafferty in concert long after Baker Street was a hit. What a truly talented individual. I was very concerned to learn of his disappearance but was equally concerned at the disparity between postings on this website, some claiming he is alive and well and others more sinister. I do not know what to believe from the internet and the media at large. I just continue to keep the faith and pray for the wellbeing and safe return to the music scene of this great icon.

I have always thought Gerry has always had a cherry sounding distinctive singing voice. And his music has gotten me through many lonely times. I regret never have seen him live and have always hoped for a come back. (and a DVD retro-concert) Hey Gerry, its not too late!!! Your the greatest, were praying for you. I know you know Him.

Had lots of Gerry Rafferty's music going round in my head yesterday. For some reason "Oh Maddy" was one of the more prominent tunes. I searched for Gerry's music on You Tube and there's a lot of stuff on there. I am sure that Gerry is alive and well somewhere out there and may just want to be left alone. While it would be wonderful to have more media coverage to clear up rumours and conspiracy theories, not all celebrities want that kind of attention. Long live this great musician and his music.
